The Biermanns

2025 was a big year for our family. We transitioned from the military to ministry, as I retired from the Air Force after 20 years of active duty service. My wife, Rachel, and I also celebrated 20 years of marriage.

In the past 20 years, God has blessed our marriage in so many ways. We have four wonderful children: Mykennah (18), Gabriel (16), Evangelina (9), and Noelle (7). God blessed our military journey as we were assigned to seven different duty stations, where He had a church home for us at each location.

In all these churches, God put amazing pastors, pastors’ wives, their families, and church families in our lives to prepare us for this task. God’s forethought in equipping us to fulfill His will is truly amazing!

And we are blessed to say that all six of us have trusted Jesus as our personal Savior!

I grew up in Union Grove, WI, where my family began attending Union Grove Baptist Church when I was three years old. On one Wednesday night when I was six years old, Ms. Norene Barrett, a faithful servant of the Lord, taught a lesson about hell.

I knew it was no place I wanted to be--separated from God and suffering in torment for all eternity. That night I knelt and trusted Jesus as my personal Savior. Two years later my childhood pastor, Pastor George Schlagel, baptized me at Union Grove Baptist Church.

Rachel Biermann

Rachel grew up in southeastern Wisconsin, where her family began attending a Bible believing, gospel preaching Baptist church under Pastor Jonathan Jameson. From a young age, she knew she was lost and needed the Lord.

One late winter evening, at the age of 10, she received Jesus as her personal Savior, and received complete peace in knowing she accepted the greatest gift of all…salvation! Later on in her early adulthood our pastor, Pastor Greg Iehl, baptized her at Maranatha Baptist Church.

The Call

At our fifth duty station, Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX (Nov 2017-Jan 2020), we were members of Helotes Independent Baptist Church with Pastor Joshua Kelley. So much happened in our lives during this assignment, and it’s also where God called me to full-time ministry.

From there, we were assigned to Scott Air Force Base, IL (Jan 2020-Feb 2023), where I had the opportunity to travel to Knoxville, TN, and teach my job (photojournalism) to Guardsmen and Reservists.

During my few weeks there, I attended Temple Baptist Church and met Pastor Clarence Sexton.

After sharing my testimony and call, Pastor Sexton offered me a full scholarship. Even when I had self-doubts, God used this meeting to put an exclamation point on His call for my life.

Truly amazing.

From our time in Texas until now, several families from Boerne started attending HIBC. Pastor Kelley realized the need and started praying for a man to come to Boerne to plant a church in this needy town. Over time, God began working in my heart about church planting. I had never given it much thought until the past couple of years, truthfully because the thought of church planting overwhelmed me.

Then we were assigned to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, AZ, in February 2023, and the Lord led us to New Testament Baptist Church, where I met Pastor King, a former church-planting pastor. During our time here, I have had the privilege to serve at NTBC in a number of ways. Then Pastor King asked me to come on staff as a pastoral intern in September 2024. While church planting was never entirely foreign to me, Pastor King has helped increase my knowledge and understanding of the journey. Again…amazing.
